Landcut 2009

This year the trip to the landcut was quite exciting! At 12am Saturday I made my first phone call (and hopefully last) to the US Coast Guard. We needed their help locating a boat so they sent out a helicopter. We had two boats of our own that were looking with spotlights from 9pm until the midnight phone call. We were looking for my cousin Chad's boat which had Chad, Misty and Jerry Shelton on board. The boat had some mechanical problem and they had drifted and gotten stranded. We saw a flare at one point and the helicopter didn't get to it in time to pinpoint where it was. We assumed it was likely our boat but had no confirmation. Magically some time around 2 or 2:30 am Chad had cell phone service for a brief period of time so we were able to direct the helicopter to a more specific location and FINALLY had confirmation that they were ok. It was 4:30am when the boat and 3 exhausted people were towed in! Despite all of this some of the guys still managed to fish some that night because "there's nothing else to do."

Addie and her cousins are all old enough to "fish" now and had a great time casting their corks (no hooks) into the water. On Saturday night they actually caught trout but I think they had more fun just casting their corks during the day. They were also really interested in the shrimp and fish which we eventually used for bait. We ended up with 130 keepers which were all trout except for the red fish Chris caught and the flounder Dwayne caught. We are already looking forward to next year's trip!
